The Schvitz men’s steam bath, located at 116th St. and Kinsman since 1927, is a Cleveland institution. It was originally operated by four generations of Mr. Gold’s family and was featured in the CJN in the Feb. 2002 article “Sweatin’ with the oldies” (http://tinyurl.com/yfq96mk).March 9th, 2010 GROSS, GILBERT LOUISGilbert Louis Gross, M.D., beloved husband of Lucille (née Pudbereskyn); devoted father of Rebecca (David) Burack of South Carolina, Ronald (Kathy) of Arizona, Michele of California, David M. (the late Laura), and Ilona; loving grandfather of Rachel, Adam, Shayna, Elana and Leah, died March 8 at age 87. Services will be held at Berkowitz-Kumin-Bookatz Memorial Chapel, Thurs., March 11, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Gross residence, 2011 Temblethurst Dr., South Euclid, Thurs. following interment until 8:30 p.m., Fri., 1-4 p.m. and Sat., March 13, 1-5 p.m. only. Linsey was 94Martin Louis Linsey, who worked in the education department at The Cleveland Museum of Art (CMA) for 20 years, died March 3 at age 94. He worked at a variety of jobs in photography and industrial design and for the architectural firm of Dalton and Dalton as a delineator and model-maker before joining CMA in 1960.March 8th, 2010 HARRISON FUERSTHarrison M. Fuerst, an attorney and broadcaster, died March 6, two weeks before his 85th birthday. In 1964, Mr. Fuerst put together a group to purchase WADC radio station in Akron They changed the call letters to WSLR and the format to country music. WSLR became the first country music station north of the Mason-Dixon Line. Mr. Fuerst also owned radio stations in Denver; Omaha; Albany; Mansfield; and Rutland, Vt. As a lawyer, he handled one of the first asbestosis cases, obtaining a settlement for a railroad worker who suffered lung damage as a result of exposure to asbestos fibers.FIXLER, ALICEHolocaust survivor Alice Fixler (née Fogel), beloved wife of Simon; devoted mother of Dennis (Gayle) of Maryland, James and Mark (Sherry); loving grandmother of Jordan, Hayley and Michael, died March 6 at age 87. A graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, where he earned a degree in engineering, Mr. Rosenfield also had a long career with Nymold Corporation.March 4th, 2010 KOTLER, JOAN SPEROJoan “Nina” Spero Kotler, beloved wife of the late Samuel; devoted mother of Caryn Kotler Duboff (Howard Orzan) and Marti (Frank) Reich; loving grandmother and “Nina” to Mallie and Kori Duboff, Stacee, Alyssa and Jake Reich; best friend and dear sister of the late Jane Bubis and Loren Spero; “Aunt Joan” to her many nieces and nephews; beloved friend and sister-in-law; daughter of the late Yetta and Martin Spero, died March 1. She was born in Cleveland on June 30, 1930. Joan will be greatly missed and remembered all over Miami Beach. Mr. Peizer, a member of Oheb Zeek-Taylor Road Synagogue and a past member of Young Israel of Greater Cleveland, was active in many Jewish organizations, but he focused on fighting discrimination.WILLIAM SHULMANWilliam Shulman, who managed Nottingham Auto Wrecking Co., died Feb. 27 at age 98. He was one of the principles of Trio Auto Parts for 20 years and the president of Bellaire Road Auto Parts for 40 years.MILDRED HENKINMildred Henkin (née Washor), a volunteer at the former St. Joseph Hospital, died March 2 in Woodland Hills, Calif. She was 91. Mrs. Henkin was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. In 1954, she moved to Lorain, where she was a member of Agudath B’nai Israel Synagogue and a life member of Hadassah.
